About Me

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be working in such a dynamic place as Kaiser Oakland. My position as the Chief of Cardiology and as the Assistant Chief of the Cardiology division of the East Bay Cardiac Service Line has allowed me to fulfill many of my career goals.

I am a San Francisco native who first fell in love with the East Bay as an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, receiving my Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry. Following my training, I spent fourteen years at Alameda County Medical Center in many roles, including Medical Staff president and managing partner of the combined Internal Medicine-Emergency Medicine professional group.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in October 2000, largely because of the opportunity to participate in the new East Bay Cardiac Service Line based at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. This program has allowed me to use and hone my procedural skills, including coronary artery intervention and permanent pacemaker implantation.

My personal life includes my happy marriage, two very active young children, coping with life in Berkeley and myriad hobbies that include Cal Sports, skiing, dining, attending theater, wine collecting, and, hopefully in the near future, traveling again.

I hope this web site enables our members better access to a comprehensive but unfortunately large organization, and in the process, allows for better patient care.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
