About Me

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I received my BS in Physics from Santa Clara University in 1989, and my MD from UC Davis School of Medicine in 1993. I completed my residency training here at Kaiser Oakland in 1996, and spent an extra year as Chief Resident.

I chose to remain at Kaiser Permanente as a Neonatal hospital-based physician. Working with our tiniest patients (and newest members!) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is challenging and rewarding. It's a privilege to be able to participate in so many families’ deliveries and celebrations, and to be able to provide cutting-edge support for critical infants when things didn’t go according to plan. It's very stressful for families when a newborn is ill and can’t come home with mom, but we strive to get the whole family through the healing process, and meeting that goal. I’m proud to be part of our close-knit interdisciplinary team in the NICU, as we’re able to provide seamless top-quality care, day and night -- you’ll most often find me at night.

In addition to the care of newborns, I’ve remained active in our residency training program as Assistant Program Director. Having a residency program keeps us all up to date and on our toes, and provides the opportunity to train top-notch and compassionate pediatricians. In addition to our own residency program, we are a training hospital for University of California San Francisco and Children’s Hospital Oakland. I have included a link above to our residency program.

My outside interests include movie-making, anything computers, gardening (mostly trying not to kill off my plants), and travel (roadtrip!). As with many of my fellow Americans, I’m also a recovering reality-TV and Tivo addict.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
