Joined Kaiser Permanente: 1978
Outside Interests: Family; walking my beloved dog; hiking; backpacking; cross-country skiing; trying not to age
Growing up on the East Coast in the 50’s and always wanting to be a doctor led to many interesting and challenging conversations along the way, as not everyone was pleased with a young woman’s aspirations of “taking the place of a man” in medical school. Nonetheless, after graduation from State University of New York at Buffalo as a biology major, I completed my medical degree from the University of Rochester in New York, and then remained in Rochester for my pediatric training, followed by a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology fellowship, giving me the background to truly understand how children differ from adults in their handling of medications.
I then traveled west while my physician husband pursued a fellowship, and joined The Permanente Medical Group in Oakland in 1978. It is the only job I have ever had. During my 27 years here, I have been Chief of Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the facility for about 10 years, Chair of the Pediatric Housestaff Evaluation Committee for 10 years, and Assistant Chief of the Department of Pediatrics for Outpatient Services for 5 years. I currently work with the Child Psychiatry Dept ADHD program, and oversee a "healthy eating and exercise" program for overweight kids and teens. I also work with the residents to teach them the science and art of out-patient pediatrics.
I am the mother of 2 grown sons who have wonderful wives. I also have a 5 month old granddaughter who delights us all. My husband and I enjoy hiking, cross-country skiing and generally trying to keep fit. Any extra time goes to enjoying the wonderful multicultural city that is Oakland.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
