My Qualifications

I was born in Ecuador and came to the United States at the age of six. I graduated with a BA degree in Zoology from UCLA.

I began working for Kaiser Permanente in 1982 moonlighting in the Emergency Department in Sacramento while completing a Family Practice residency and was challenged by the work so much that I decided to make Emergency Medicine my career. I have worked for Kaiser Permanente in the Sacramento area ever since.

My Healthcare Practice

My specialty is Emergency Medicine. I chose this specialty as it allows me to take care of the broadest range of medical problems ranging from life-threatening to more stable but painful, puzzling, anxiety provoking problems involving either gender and age range from pediatric to geriatric.

My practice philosophy is very simple- treat everyone the way I would want to be treated. Beyond all the ways we as humans try to differentiate ourselves from others, everyone deserves respect and compassionate care. I work hard in my free time to keep current on my fund of knowledge by keeping up with the medical literature in my field.

Receiving Your Healthcare from Kaiser Permanente

I enjoy practicing medicine with Kaiser Permanente as I am constantly challenged to keep up with the high level of care practiced by our Sacramento/Roseville Emergency Department physicians. Despite problems I hear about in the outside world, within Kaiser Permanente, I am free to practice medicine using all the diagnostic aids and tests I need to come to an accurate diagnosis and treatment without respect to cost. Since I am salaried, I always have a clear conscience that I don't have a conscious or unconscious motive to increase my reimbursements at the cost of my patient. In summary, Kaiser Permanente provides an environment that allows me to practice medicine at the highest level I am capable of. I have so much confidence in Kaiser Permanente that I have told my family to ALWAYS seek out a local Kaiser Permanente facility, if possible, for their care if they ever find themselves in an unfamiliar environment.

My Outside Interests

I am married and have three grown children. In my spare time, I enjoy golf, gardening, and bicycling on the American River bike trail.
