About Me

I grew up in Piedmont, California, and I have remained in Northern California my whole life. I went to college at the University of California, Davis, where I participated as a sprinter for the track and field team. It was there that I developed my interest in biomechanics and medicine, eventually leading me to podiatry. I went on to California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, where I received my degree in podiatric medicine. While in podiatry school, I started doing research in the biomechanics of diabetic foot ulcers. I have had an interest in the diabetic foot ever since.

I originally was in private practice for a few years. Continuing my interest in diabetic foot care, I was on staff at the John Muir Wound Care Center. In 2003, I left private practice when I was given the opportunity to specialize in diabetic feet at Kaiser Permanente. Currently, I am a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American Diabetes Association, and American Professional Wound Care Association.

I’m working on research on Charcot Arthropathy, a disabling condition that happens in a small percentage of diabetic feet. I’m looking at ways to stop the uncontrolled breakdown of the joints in the feet.

When I’m not working on feet, I like to get out on my bicycle, garden, and play in the snow on my snowboard during the winter.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
