About Me
I was born in Hong Kong and lived there until I finished high school. I attended the University of California, Davis from which I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. I earned my medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1994. Missing the cultural diversity in the Bay Area, I returned to San Francisco and completed the residency in internal medicine at St. Mary's Medical Center. After residency, I started my own practice for six years in San Francisco prior to joining The Permanente Medical Group. I am proud to be part of this organization that provides the finest medical care.
I have enjoyed the bonds made between my patients and me over the years of practicing internal medicine. In the process of treating my patients, I get to know them personally and work with them to achieve good health. For the past few years, I had been actively participating in educating the general public of different health issues through giving lectures in the community or on radio talk shows.
I am a native Cantonese but I can also speak fluent Mandarin, thanks to my in-laws.
I am married with one lovely daughter, Hannah, a preschooler. I enjoy spending time with my family, and the San Francisco Zoo, museums, and parks have been our most visited sites. However, my true hobby is singing. I was a member of the University Chorus in college, performing my favorite piece, Messiah, at one time. I will continue to sing along while driving to work from San Francisco.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
