Welcome to my practice

Heart failure and heart transplant can be emotionally challenging to patients, their families and their friends. The Heart Transplant Service is a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, a psychologist and a social worker focused on helping you with all aspects of your treatment. I am a Clinical and Health Psychologist working as part of this team. As the patient, you are the expert in your health, and as such, I hope to collaborate with you to achieve the best possible results. I may discuss with you a number of mental health treatment modalities and strategies and together with you decide the best course of action. In addition, Kaiser Permanente offers excellent psychiatric and behavioral health services, which I hope you will take advantage of. We as a team are here to help you. We are committed to our patients’ achievement of health and well-being in their lives.

Background

I received my Master’s degree in psychology from Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, in San Francisco, CA. I earned my Doctorate degree from the Institute of Imaginal Studies, in Petaluma, CA. As part of my training towards my psychology license, I completed an internship at the Pacific Center for Human Growth, in Berkeley, CA, and I engaged in a supervised private practice in Oakland, CA, working primarily with chronic health patients. I then moved to Contra Costa Health Services in Martinez, CA. Within the county, I finished my supervised licensing hours working for Psych Emergency Services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. After that, I had the opportunity to work for the Martinez Detention Facility and for the Forensic Conditional Release Program. In both settings, I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team serving patients with chronic health issues. I enjoyed working in different settings. I think that these experiences created opportunities for professional development and maturity, which I brought with me to Kaiser’s excellent team, the Heart Transplant Service.

My philosophy of care

In my opinion, collaboration between the provider and the patient are the key to treatment success. You are the expert in your health and mental health, what you have experienced, what has worked and not worked for you in the past, and how to best take care of your mental health. I bring my expertise in the various modalities of mental health treatment, and together we will determine the best approach that works for you.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
