About me

I was born with the dream of becoming a physician. Maybe it came from my mother; she was a last year medical student when I first saw the world. Maybe it came from my father; he was a neurologist. Maybe it came from my grandfather's magic surgeon hands. I imagined myself as a physician for as long as I can remember, as a young girl playing hospital games and writing prescriptions. Even then, I understood that realization of my dreams required hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

I graduated from Kiev Medical School, Ukraine (one of the former Soviet Union Republics), and practiced medicine with an emphasis in cardiology and rheumatology for three years before immigration. In the United States, after completing all requirements and finishing my residency in Boston, Massachusetts, I joined a private medical group. I had to learn the challenging world of the business of medicine in California.

I chose to join Kaiser Permanente in 2004 because it allowed me to forget about overhead expenses and HMO authorizations. Kaiser Permanente is a unique organization which provides integrated health care for my patients. It also maintains unique human and information technology resources.

As a general practitioner I like to take care of different aspects of patient health. This includes the investigation of difficult cases to find diagnostic answers and treatment options and the negotiation of general treatment after specialist consults. I enjoy helping people achieve and maintain good health by using preventive medicine or by using all available resources to prevent complications from chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. I think the doctor and the patient have to work together as a team to reach a goal.

When I am not at work, I enjoy being with my family: my husband Gennadi- computer programmer, my daughter Anna- UC Berkley student, my son Anthony- elementary school student. I am so lucky to have my parents around. Their every day support made it possible to become who I am today.

During my free time there are always things to do. I help my son with his school homework, and enjoy working in the kitchen and garden. I also like reading, traveling, and theater.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
