About Me

I was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1969. My family moved to Houston, Texas where I went to high school. I attended the Johns Hopkins University from 1987 to 1991 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. While there, I also spent six months studying abroad at York University in England.

From 1991-1996, I studied at the Yale School of Medicine. It was during that time that I played club volleyball, became active in the Yale Health Professionals Christian Fellowship, and met my future wife. Like many of my colleagues, I extended my studies one year to further my research thesis in the field of immunology. Lastly, during the final three months, I trained and taught at a missions hospital in Bihar, India.

I completed my residency training in Internal Medicine at the St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut (a Yale-affiliated community hospital) and was happy at the opportunity to join Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California in 1999. I was boarded in Internal Medicine that same year.

I am a member of the California Medical Association, the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and the American College of Physicians.

I have many personal interests outside of medicine. My wife and I have one son, born in May 2000. We also have adopted a daughter in November 2005. We spend time fishing, playing tennis, and exploring the Bay Area. I also have been active in local churches on the missions committee and on the worship team playing on guitar, violin, piano, and singing.

There are many excellent physicians here at Kaiser in Oakland. I look forward in helping you find a personal physician, or becoming a personal physician to you to engage in promoting better health through our team of professionals here at Kaiser Permanente.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
