Welcome to The Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Richmond. Thank you for taking time to explore my home page. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a long, healthy relationship.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and received medical and public health training in New York City before returning to work for Kaiser Permanente in the East Bay. I specialize in emergency medicine because allows me the opportunity to work with a tremendous variety of patients, from every culture and with a wide variety of medical problems. Every trip to the ER is a stressful experience for the patient and their family. My goal in every encounter is not only to rapidly diagnose and treat the problem at hand, but also to maximize your comfort and our communication. I hope that you will leave for home feeling comfortable and with all your questions answered.

As a public health physician, I also appreciate the emergency department as the intersection point between the strange world of medicine and hospitals with the real world in which people live. A large proportion of injuries and diseases that physicians encounter each day are preventable. They are avoidable accidents, consequences of tobacco or other environmental exposures, products of socioeconomic disparities, or quite often due to obstacles to preventative medicine. No illness is without its context and I seek to understand and correct those causes as well whenever possible.

As for my personal life, I am a runner, a cyclist, and an artist. I love nature and these are my ways of getting more of it. Nature is the source of our most important health, our mental health. I hope that everyone will enjoy and protect our wonderful environment here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The next time you reach for your car keys, consider the bicycle, the bus, the BART or the ferry instead.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
