My Specialty and Why I Chose It

Provide a description of your specialty and why you chose it: As an anesthesiologist, I am in charge of optimizing your surgical experience by making sure that safety and comfort are of highest priority. I decided to become an anesthesiologist because I enjoy interacting with patients and tailoring my medical decision making to his/her individual needs.

My Practice Philosophy

I value the patient-physician relationship that is established at bedside prior to surgery. Although this is a relatively brief interaction, I find it vital to establishing a patient's trust and comfort in the physician who will be taking care of him/her. During the perioperative period, I believe communication with the patient, his/her family, the surgeon, and OR staff is important in ensuring a safe and comfortable surgical experience.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Connecticut, Farmington, CT
Internship Highland General Hospital, Oakland, CA
Residency Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT
Board certification Anesthesiology, American Board of Anesthesiology

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I've been a part of Kaiser Permanente since 2006. I've appreciated that I can make medical decisions without production pressure, and also consult my colleagues for opinions if needed. This teamwork approach really optimizes patient care.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

At Kaiser, having a computer database with most of a patient's record readily available is wonderful. It makes my job more efficient so that I can focus on a patient's needs rather than run around looking for paper chart trails.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

  • American Society of Anesthesiologists
  • California Society of Anesthesiologists

On a Personal Note…

I am originally from Connecticut and moved out to Sacramento because my husband's family is from this area. Although I miss the spring and autumn of New England, I am enjoying the year-round playground of the Sacramento area. I enjoy running and hatha yoga, although my main interest these days is our baby daughter.
