My Specialty and Why I Chose It

Gastroenterology is a specialty pertaining to the gastrointestinal tract for organs such as the esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, liver and gallbladder. I chose this field because there is a wide spectrum of diseases, some which we can prevent such as colon cancer and others which may be challenging but rewarding to treat. I also have been trained to perform endoscopy which can help to explain or treat medical conditions for my patients which is a very satisfying part of my work.

My Practice Philosophy

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is critical to achieving longevity and happiness and I believe that physicians can help to offer patients information regarding the diagnosis and treatment of medical symptoms. Decisions regarding one’s health should be made with a team approach and involves the active involvement of each person.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I began caring for patients at Kaiser Permanente during my Internal Medicine residency at UC Davis in 2000 and became a full-time hospital based physician for one year after completing residency in 2003. I returned to UC Davis for my fellowship training and feel fortunate to return to Kaiser again.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente is an integrated health care system and I appreciate that there are mechanisms in place to optimize patient care.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

I am a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. I am a representative on the ACG committees for Women and also for Trainees. I have participated in research involving the field of inflammatory bowel disease and disorders of the pancreas and biliary tract.

On a Personal Note

Outside of work, I enjoy skiing, cooking, traveling, golfing and spending time with friends and family.
