To get the most out of our consultation or follow-up appointment:
- Please arrive at my office about 20 minutes before the appointment time. This will allow you time for filling out the Prevention Information on Your Registration Slip, and my office staff to get the weight, blood pressure and such information.
- Please feel free to bring copies of any important outside records that might be helpful.
- Please bring a list of your current medications and their doses or the actual pill bottles themselves.
About Me
Professional information:
My tenure with The Permanente Medical Group
I have been at Kaiser Permanente Oakland for over 20 years. My residency training was done here. I joined the Kaiser Permanente staff officially in 1988, continuing hospital work and taking on a practice as a personal physician to many patients.
More recently, with the advent of hospital-based specialists, I have focused on outpatient medicine (office practice). In addition, I now serve in the following roles:
- Elected Representative from Oakland on the Board of Directors of The Permanente Medical Group
- Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF (I teach residents and medical students)
- Past Chair and current member, Physician Health & Wellness Committee, Oakland
- Longtime member, Oakland Medical Center Ethics Committee
Practice Philosophy
The practice of medicine today is both challenging and rewarding. While it is sometimes “high-tech”, the best medicine relies fundamentally on prevention and self-care, and on communication and collaboration between patient and doctor. I chose the specialty of Internal Medicine because I believe strongly in the importance of Primary Care. As a primary care physician, I can handle most things, but when I can’t, I try to help guide people through the system. Luckily, at Kaiser Permanente, I have a great group of colleagues in a system that is comprehensive and well-integrated.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
