My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a physical therapist and I practice in the outpatient clinic setting. I treat patients with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders. Physical therapy helps patients restore function, relieve pain, prevent injury and work on their general wellness. As a physical therapist I am given the time and resources that I need to help make a difference in patient’s lives.

My Practice Philosophy

I believe that it is essential to take in consideration the person as a whole when they come in for treatment. I will evaluate the specific problem they are referred for but I also like to take the time to discuss their overall health. It is important for patients to get a good understanding of what their problems are so that they can be an active participant in their treatment. The more tools that you can give a patient to use to help themselves, the more you can effect the patients overall health. It is much more powerful to educate and treat a patient then to just treat an ailment.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente since 1991. I began my career as a full-time clinician at our Rancho Cordova clinic then after a year moved to our Roseville Clinic. I then served as the clinic supervisor for our Rancho Cordova clinic. I am now the Assistant Director of Rehabilitation Services for the North Valley Service area. In this position, along with patient care, I serve as the site supervisor at our Sacramento - Point West clinic and our new Lincoln clinic. I also help manage and oversee all four of our clinics in the service area. I am also the Center Coordinator of Clinic Education for our service area. In this capacity I am in charge of our physical therapy student programs throughout the service area. I have really enjoyed the variety of positions that I have been fortunate to have with Kaiser Permanente. The most rewarding part for me continues to be the time I spend with my patients. I enjoy working for an organization that truly values their employees and makes patient care their number one priority.

Why I Like to Practice Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente because Kaiser has always been a leader in providing quality healthcare in our region. Kaiser not only provides great care for their patients but puts a great emphasis on preventative medicine. Working as a physical therapist I am able to treat my patients in an environment where we have immediate access to all the patient information because our on-line medical record system, HealthConnect. We work collaboratively with the patient’s referring providers to provide the best care for our patients.

Professional Interests and Affiliations

  • American Physical Therapy Association (APTA),
  • Orthopedica section of the APTA
  • American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist (AAOMPT).

My professional interest is in Orthopedic Manual Therapy. I have completed over 1,000 hours of continuing education including 3 long term programs in manual therapy. I am also an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor.

On a Personal Note

I grew up in the Sacramento area and after graduate school I came back to the region to settle down with my family. I am married and we have two wonderful boys. Away from work I like to spend my time with family and friends. I coach my son’s soccer team and I also enjoy golfing and working out as much as I can. As a family we love vacationing anywhere there is a beach and we try and make church and our faith a priority in our lives.
