My romance with medicine commenced at the age of one and progressed from being a recipient to a participant at the age of six. I gained artful experience over the next two years with Bunsen lamps, Benedict's solution, urine sugar colour charts, Luer lock glass syringes and stainless steel needles under the tutelage of my father and a few aunts who were in medicine, and culminated in my first shot to my father. Thereafter, I became my father's personal injector, much to my mother's relief. At fourteen, watching my own tonsils being removed through the head mirror of my surgeon sealed my future as a head and neck surgeon. I have waltzed with this profession over three continents and enjoyed it all along and look forward to the practice of it daily.
Kaiser Permanente has been my practice home base for more than two decades and undoubtedly believe that I was on the engine that brought us to the station that we are at today. Balance between the difficult practice of medicine and family life, medical sleuthing and surgical artistry, adult and paediatric medicine, clinic and operating room, the pleasure of working with great clinic, operating room, emergency room and ward teams, interaction with my valued colleagues, riding the waves of medical change, and remaining on the cutting edge of my specialty has been an exciting adventure indeed. Although Shakespeare said, "all the world's a stage, and all men and women merely players", I actually am a real surgeon and a woman besides and in the nature of things, I consider myself as a facilitator of that great process called "healing."
Above all, I prize the opportunity to be of assistance to all my patient clientele the most, and I offer you my gratitude for allowing me to participate in your care. I cherish and appreciate all the wisdom I have acquired through our meetings. This I extend also to those who slave with me in the rendering of this daily care. To all of you (you know who you are) who have contributed to the Mateo galleria I and II at the Morse MOB, keep it coming whether it be jokes, poetry, prose, pictures (even scribbles), sculptures, crafts or essays. All who sit in my exam rooms read them more than the magazines, so you know now that your contributions are truly admired by many indeed.
My outside interests include classical music (guitar/flute), all ethnic music and folk dancing, choral music, hiking and international medical missions.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
