About Me

Welcome to my homepage. Whether checking up on the doctor you just met or looking to find someone with whom to work, I hope these few words will be of some utility. First off, I am most assuredly a bit like you. My life so far has not been a perfectly straight road towards some predetermined destination, rather one lived with eyes and ears open fascinated by the human condition. As an immigrants’ son, I felt a compelling need to educate myself and secure a safe and comfortable place for myself and future family. Psychology felt right and as I pursued my degree I worked graveyard shifts at a convenience store and as a housekeeper amongst other odd jobs. I took time off to travel, meeting and enjoying the company of many people from various parts of the world as well as working and backpacking in the relative solitude of Denali National Park Alaska for five months. I worked as a therapist putting my education to practice and gravitated towards medicine to expand what I could offer in terms of care.

I chose one of the only two American medical schools with a bilingual curriculum (both in Puerto Rico) to help shore up my Spanish so I could further expand my breadth of care. I moved on to my residency in Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where I again was able to practice with a wonderfully diverse population.

Deciding how and where to work was a challenge. Weighing the intimacy of a small private practice versus a more public health oriented model was a difficult decision. Ultimately I felt that I could continue to grow more as a person and physician by working with and learning from as many different kinds of people as possible. So it was the Bay Area and Kaiser that we chose to start our family and continue my career. I feel fortunate to now be able to provide services in both Spanish and English and to be able to utilize a more holistic approach towards mental health care. Patient-centered and collaborative, the possible range of treatments offered at Kaiser helps match the distinctiveness of its members. The approaches available are truly extensive and can be tailored to suit the individual all geared to helping provide a higher quality life.

Now you know a little about me and my approach, and I look forward to you sharing your story in a comfortable, safe and ultimately rewarding therapeutic relationship.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
