My Profession and Why I Chose It

I am an internist. In internal medicine, I am always challenged by a broad diversity of complex medical problems. I have the honor of developing relationships with the patients who suffer with these problems as we work together to manage them. Furthermore, in internal medicine, I meet a wide variety of people from young to old, all educational levels, cultures, and backgrounds. I get to know and share a part of each patient's life as I listen to his or her experiences. I learn from my patient's strengths, share in their grief, and losses, and admire their ability to cope with often very trying issues. I am also energized and motivated when my patients make lifestyle changes that lead to better health and enable them to enjoy their life. I enjoy what I do.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis, CA
Residency Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Healthcare Practice

I have been practicing medicine since 1991 with Kaiser Permanente. Currently, I am a Care Team leader for Point West Medicine 3. I truly enjoy my patients and I believe it is an honor to be involved in their care, have their trust and share their lives. I have developed many great relationships with my patients and see them as part of my family. My practice style is unique because I believe in addressing the body, mind and soul in developing your healthcare program. I use this approach to reach my patients at all levels of their life and it has been very rewarding. I am also an assistant professor for University of California Davis and enjoy teaching medical students and training residents in Medicine.

My Practice Philosophy

I believe in the interconnection of body, mind, and soul. It is my role to educate, teach, coach, motivate and guide you to improve your quality of life. The human body is a wonderfully, complex machine. It is a gift and you are responsible for it. If you eat healthy, exercise, rest adequately and avoid bad habits, you will live longer, look better, and work more efficiently.

I believe the body, mind and soul work together to achieve optimal health.

Body - Keep an ideal body weight, normal blood chemistries, sugar, cholesterol, etc. Maintain the function of all body parts at any age.

Mind - Have a positive attitude. Contemplate on what is good -- have hope, love, joy and faith. Laughter is good medicine.

Soul - Whether you believe in God or not, I believe it is important to have a sense of positive purpose in this life and that we are here for a reason. You need to leave the world a better place when you die.

On a Personal Note…

I was raised in southern California (Calexico). I completed my undergraduate education at University of California San Diego. I am married with two children. I love to take long walks, jog or lift weights. I enjoy sports, cooking, gardening, carpentry, playing the guitar, and having fun with my wife and kids. I enjoy combining medicine and religion and frequently give talks to my church and sister churches on medical topics with a biblical foundation. I am involved in the church summer camp for kids. I enjoy doing missionary work here and in Mexico. Being bilingual has opened the door for me to help both our local and abroad communities.
