My Healthcare Practice

I am an adult internal medicine physician at the Point West medicine facility. I chose to practice internal medicine during medical school for the variety and interest it provides. I am able to see and treat a wide range of diseases and medical issues, as well as promote healthy lifestyles in my practice.

I believe that as a physician it is my responsibility to combine my expertise and experience with patient input in decision making. Whether managing a chronic disease or an acute illness, I believe the best outcomes arise when patients are educated about their medical conditions and we pursue a treatment plan that we both understand and agree to. I appreciate Kaiser Permanente’s focus on education. Kaiser Permanente offers classes on a wide range of topics such as fitness, diabetes, arthritis, and many more. Education empowers patients. For example, a patient with hypertension who knows how to monitor his/her blood pressure and alert us when it is out of range helps to prevent future complications of elevated blood pressure. I encourage my patients to take full advantage of the health education department.

Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I have been working in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente Point West Medical Offices since 2002. I spent part of my UC Davis residency training in the North and South Sacramento Kaiser Permanente facilities and really enjoyed them. A main reason I chose to practice with Kaiser Permanente was for the many educational opportunities available to the physicians. Kaiser Permanente provides updates and medical related lectures to its physician by specialists and experts about twice a week. This allows us to keep up with many new advances. As a primary care physician, I also appreciate the working relationships with my colleagues. There are many excellent physicians here and we have specialists in almost every field that are just a phone call or consult away.

My Outside Interests

In my free time, I am busy spending time with my wife and now 4 sons. I grew up hiking, camping, and backpacking with my family so we continue to enjoy the outdoors. I am an avid gardner and also dabble with orchid growing in a little 9 by 12 foot greenhouse in my backyard.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
