My Biography

I like my job. As a radiolgist, I am privileged to see inside the bodies of my patients and help direct their care by diagnosing disease. As an interventional radiologist, I use my radiology skills to diagnose and treat many conditions/diseases using minimally invasive means. This usually means faster recovery time and less discomfort than more invasive methods of treatment.

You may wonder how I ended up here in Oakand, working at Kaiser Permanente. I grew up in the midwest, St. Paul, Minnesota and the Chicago area to be specific. After finishing five years of college, nine years of medical school and radiology residency kept me in Chicago until I met my wife, who is an Oakland native (born right here at Kaiser). We got married in Denver where we hiked, mountain-biked, or snowboarded during most of my off-hours during my Interventional Radiology fellowship at University of Colorado. Moving to the Bay Area was an obvious choice for us given the activities we enjoy, although we now have two young kids and use strollers far more frequently than snowboards or mountain bikes.

Working for Kaiser Permanente is an equally obvious choice for me because it allows for collaboration with a quality, academically minded staff and motivated, gracious patients in a tertiary care setting. In my field, I have frequent communication with many highly trained physicians who are all working in concert to provide our members with the best possible care.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
