My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I have been a licensed physical therapist in the State of California since 1988. Since that time, I have been working in an outpatient orthopedic setting working primarily with musculoskeletal disorders. I have a special interest in the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction.

My Practice Philosophy

Although it is often said, "If you've got your health, you've got everything," I believe that one's health is NOT the most important thing in life, but rather good health makes those things that are most important more attainable and more enjoyable. My general practice philosophy revolves around each patient's definition of quality of life and the type of activities that said quality includes.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser since 1988. Because of the autonomy I have enjoyed and because of the quality physicians and physical therapists I have had the opportunity to work with, it has been a wonderful place to practice my profession.

As an organization, I feel that Kaiser Permanente encourages the concept of prevention better than anyone else. Its philosophy of educating patients and giving them the necessary tools to take care of themselves is, in the long run, the most effective means of treatment. It allows patients to take responsibility for the health and the health of their loved ones.

Professional Interests

Over the past several years, I have taught monthly classes to groups of patients suffering from low back pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

On a Personal Note

I have been involved in athletics all of my life. I play softball weekly and am an avid cyclist, backpacker, and mountain climber. I put myself through undergraduate and graduate school by working construction, teaching guitar, coaching tennis, and refereeing athletic competitions. I still have interests in those areas. My wife and I have been married since 1985. She is an RN working in the Women's Health Dept at Kaiser. We have four children.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
