Welcome to My Home Page !

Hi. My name is Don Yoshimura and I am a neurologist at the Fresno Kaiser Medical Center. I was born and raised in the town of Fowler, just south of Fresno, and attended elementary and high school there, graduating in 1976. I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Southern California (go Trojans!) in 1980 and went to medical school at UC San Francisco. I completed 2 years of an Internal Medicine residency at UC San Diego, then returned to UC San Francisco for my Neurology Residency and Neuromuscular Fellowship, finally finishing in 1990.

I have been the chief of the Neurology Department at Kaiser, Fresno since completing my training in the summer of 1990. It has been my distinct pleasure to participate in the growth of this facility and its medical staff over the years. Our department has grown from a single neurologist (myself) to 3 full time neurologists and a part-time nurse practitioner.

My wife, Marsha and I have been married since 1984. We have 3 children - Reid, Chad, and Joelle. I am active in my church and various outside activities, including coaching my son and daughter’s basketball teams. I play in a recreational volleyball league on a regular basis and ride my bicycle whenever the weather permits.

I love my practice and the patients and families I work with. Neurology is a challenging field, with many difficult clinical problems. Luckily, it is also a field that is experiencing a rapid expansion, its scientific knowledge base, with new treatments and technology at our disposal. As is true with most things though, time spent listening to the patient and family is often the most useful diagnostic and therapeutic tool and I strive to do this with all my patients.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
