My home page is a work in progress so hopefully you will find new information each time you visit. There are a number of useful links to other areas of Kaiser Permanente that I feel will promote optimum health.

About Me

I was born at Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek where my mom previously was one of the nursing staff. My pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael took care of me from day one to age 19 and was a great role model (and woman!)

I joined Kaiser Permanente while still a resident and started practice in 1990 in Sacramento. I moved to the Davis clinic in 1995 and am fortunate to work with a fantastic group of medicine colleagues. It is great to work at such a small facility where the entire staff gets to know one another.

I appreciate having the opportunity to work as a physician and impact positively on my patient's lives. I feel strongly that those of us lucky enough to enjoy good health have a moral obligation to help the poor and the sick.

My Healthcare Practice

I am in internist which means I practice adult medicine (a lot of people confuse internists with "interns" but an intern is someone in their first year of a residency program.) It has been a long time (over 10 years) since I was an intern. I chose to be a general internist because this field focuses on adults but is wide enough to include all of the organ systems. Doctors who go on to further training as cardiologists, gastroenterologists, etc must first train as internists.

As a general internist, I do not have a specialty area but have a personal interest in women's health and sports medicine.

I feel strongly that patients must be partners in health decisions with their doctor. There are multiple influences on an individual's lifestyle, and what is right for one person may not fit another. A wise medical professor once told me that good health is strongly based on good living, good genetics, and good luck.

I appreciate practicing medicine and not running a business. Computer technology certainly makes a contained group model like Kaiser Permanente a very efficient and advanced place to work.

My Outside Interests

I managed to get married and have three kids during medical school, residency, and early work life, and my family is my greatest source of happiness. Away from the office, I enjoy walking and swimming.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
