My Specialty
I am board certified in Internal Medicine. This specialty provides care for adults, from the older teenager to our senior citizens. It focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and care of adult illnesses. Internal medicine also provides for dealing with a wide range of medical problems, including acute illnesses, chronic medical problems or combinations of problems. For example, an internal medicine doctor can take care of a healthy young adult with a sore throat or an older person with emphysema or a middle age adult with diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis. I chose to practice this specialty because I like the idea of taking care of the whole patient. I also find it very rewarding taking care of my patients for the long-term—for a lifetime.

How I got here
I was in private practice for 7 years in Sacramento. In providing care for my patients, I was finding it harder and harder to spend time with my family. So, 12 years ago I joined Kaiser Permanente and I have been able to find a happy balance ever since. When I started here, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to continue practicing medicine as I had before—there were no rules on what tests I could order, no limit on referrals to subspecialists, no restrictions on medications that I prescribed. Also, when I needed some advice, I could just take a few steps down the hall and ask one of my colleagues. The information technology has also developed to the point that I can view my patient’s test results, medication lists, xray studies, hospital reports from pretty much anywhere in Northern California right in my exam room on my personal computer.
What about me?
I was born in San Francisco and have always lived somewhere in California. I am happily married with three children. They are spaced out (in age) with one in college, one in high school and my “baby” is in grade school. They are all active in soccer, so I spend a lot of my free time travelling with them and rooting for them. I also like photography and the outdoors. In addition, on weekends I am a gardener, plumber, painter, auto mechanic, dog groomer and cat litter box changer.
