About Me

Thank you for visiting my home page.

Originally from central Indiana, my education through medical school was completed in the Midwest. After medical school, my residency/fellowship training was completed at the University of Wisconsin, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (England), and the University of Utah. Prior to migration to California, I served as Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical College of Ohio.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998, originally as a member of the Cardiovascular Surgery group at the San Francisco Medical Center. In 2000, I was privileged to serve as one of the original surgeons at our new Cardiovascular Surgery site in Oakland. Since our beginning in Oakland, the surgical program has grown tremendously and now incorporates a group of six cardiovascular surgeons. Although we are all members of the Medical Staff at the Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, our clinical activity occurs at nearby Alta Bates-Summit Medical Center. Summit Medical Center has a longstanding reputation for excellence in cardiac services. Our own surgical program has become especially well known in the area for our large experience with off-pump coronary bypass surgery.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
