About Me

I was born in Vietnam and raised in Taiwan. I came to the United States in 1986. Living in other parts of the world has broadened my perspective on cultures. I believe that culturally competent care leads to effective communication that promotes good adherence and positive outcomes.

I joined TPMG Sacramento in 1989 and transferred to Oakland Kaiser in March 1998. I appreciate the high-quality leadership of Kaiser. Kaiser is a role model for other health care organizations. I especially like that Kaiser does not require preauthorization for tests and clinical decisions.

My specialty is Internal Medicine. I chose to become a primary care provider because I believe I can serve my patients better through developing long-term relationships with them. My practice philosophy is to listen to my patients’ concerns. I like to discuss treatment plans in advance with patients. I believe patients have the right to make their own health care decisions.

My personal interests include travel, exercise, cooking, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy teaching medical students and residents. I am a member of the California Medical Association and the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association.

Faculty: Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California, San Francisco.
Languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, English.

My Credentials

Medical school National Taiwan University School of Medicine, Taipei, Taiwan
Residency St. Joseph Health Care Centers and Hospital, Chicago, IL
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
