About Me

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1993, I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Utah and subsequently worked for four years in a research lab studying genes for prostate cancer. In my free time, I volunteered as a rape crisis counselor at a local clinic and was a big sister in the Big Brothers and Sisters of America program. Having an interest in both science as well as counseling, I wanted to find a profession where I could combine the two. Fortunately, I was introduced to the career of genetic counseling.

In 1998 I moved to California and earned a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling at the University of California at Berkeley. During that time, I fell in love with California and decided to stay. Shortly after graduating, I moved to Sacramento.

In practice since 2000, I became certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors and am an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counseling. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001where I practice prenatal, pediatric and adult genetic counseling.

Outside of work my husband and I enjoy snow boarding, camping, traveling and taking long walks with our 11-year-old German Shepherd.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
