About Me...

Born in Illinois and raised in Texas. I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate work. I later moved to California when my family moved West.

I decided to choose medicine as a career because I feel that it is an honorable profession, which affords me the opportunity to help people, use intellectual approaches to problems, and interact directly with people. I attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and subsequently completed a residency in St. Louis at St. Louis Children's Hospital. I then completed a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology also at St. Louis Children's Hospital. I became interested in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes because I have a skill for problem solving by thorough and conscientious effort. I am also an avid reader of the disorders that are involved with these disciplines.

I enjoy the practice of medicine because it allows me to interact with both colleagues and patients and, as a result, I learn something new daily. Over the years, I have built relationships with my patients and have found it incredibly rewarding to be invited to graduations, bar/bat mitzvahs, christenings, and weddings for many of them!

I have witnessed many developments in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes that I feel have benefited my patients, including home blood glucose monitoring improvements, new insulins, and insulin pumps for diabetics. I am pleased that we have much better imaging (MRI) and blood test assays for my endocrine patients. My particular areas of interest are pituitary disorders, abnormalities of pubertal development, and diabetes.

I particularly enjoy having answers to questions about important clinical problems available within minutes, either by a phone call to a colleague or an online search. Our organization has great networking, which I feel improves patient care immensely. Our computerized data systems are constantly being enhanced. More importantly, I like not having to worry about details of office management so that I can focus on my patients and give them my full attention.

My philosophy of care includes a strong belief that patients and their families should work together with the entire health care team. Choosing healthy lifestyle behaviors, such as proper diet and exercise, is an important component of daily living and will be addressed frequently.

I feel strongly that quality care involves a commitment to keep my patients informed, while also keeping myself informed on all aspects of their conditions. When I am not practicing medicine, I enjoy reading, international dancing, gardening, and spending time with my family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
