About Me

My Credentials

Medical school Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA
Residency John A Burns School of Medicine University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI
Fellowship University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, Miami, FL

Joined Kaiser in: 1992
Other languages: Japanese

After finishing medical school at Boston University, I completed my residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Hawaii. I then voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force and worked as a staff obstetrician and gynecologist at a small U.S. Air Force Base in Northern Japan. My wife is from Tokyo so she was very happy to be back in Japan with her family, and our children enjoyed going to Japanese preschool and spending time with their grandmother. After completing my three-year assignment, we moved to Florida and I entered a maternal-fetal fellowship at the University of Miami. Upon completing the fellowship, I chose Kaiser Permanente for my professional career where I have enjoyed many years of obstetrical practice.

I have served on the clinical faculty at the University of California San Francisco where I am currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Not only do I enjoy teaching, but I have also been involved in research and have published articles on various obstetrical topics. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, I am also a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Although I enjoy obstetrical practice greatly, at present, I am also the Residency Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Kaiser Oakland. Our residency was certified by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education in 1947, and we have been producing the highest-quality specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology ever since.

In addition to my work at Kaiser, I have maintained my ties to the Air Force by being an active member of the California Air National Guard. I have been called up twice during the current War on Terror, and I am grateful to my partner at Kaiser, Dr. Larry Newman, for his hard work in covering for me when I was sent overseas.

I enjoy outside activities such as playing basketball and riding bicycles and of course spending time with my family. I have two children, Kelly and May, who are the apple of my eye and I keep their pictures prominently displayed in my office.

I truly believe that Kaiser Permanente provides ideal health care at a reasonable cost, and I am proud to be a physician who works for Kaiser.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
