Hello there! Welcome to Kaiser Permanente. My name is David Yukio Uyeno; I am an Obstetrician and Gynecologist and practice out of Kaiser's Fair Oaks Facility. I have been affiliated with Kaiser Permanente for a little over 12 years now - 4 years as a resident and now 8 years as a staff physician. This is my home page, and I hope that it gives you an opportunity to learn a little about me.

About Me

I was born and raised here in Sacramento, California. I attended Jesuit High School and went on to the University of California at Davis for my undergraduate work. I attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and returned to UCD for my residency in Ob/Gyn. After residency, I started to work for Kaiser Permanente.

My father was a pediatrician here in town for many years (Yes, for those of you who knew my dad, I am Dr. Uyeno's son), and provided much of my inspiration to go into medicine. Upon entering medical school, I fully intended to pursue a career in pediatrics, like my father, until I found obstetrics and gynecology. For me, Ob Gyn was the perfect specialty. It has tremendous variety, allowing me to utilize my technical skills in the operating room, to take part in the wonder of childbirth on labor and delivery and to experience the satisfaction of establishing long term relationships with my patients in clinic.

My Healthcare Practice

I believe that prevention is as important a part of medicine as the treatment of active disease. I believe in evidence-based medicine, while understanding that medicine is as much an art as it is a science.

And, I believe that medicine truly is a partnership, a collaborative effort requiring the active participation of both myself and my patients, to be the most effective. I have found that there is no one "right" answer for every patient, that each individual's "right" answer may be quite different.

My Outside Interests

As far as my interests go, my current obsession is my Evo VIII. Not only does it serve as my daily driver, but as my track car as well. I have attended open track events at Sears Point, Thunderhill and the Willow Springs International raceway, and hope to add Laguna Seca and Buttonwillow to my repertoir sometime soon. When not working/driving the car, I also like to fish - (salmon and striped bass in the river and on the ocean, Mackinaw and trout in the lakes), boat, and enjoy the outdoors. I like to read (Tolkien, Grisham, Clancy to name a few), and enjoy music. I also love gadgets of all kinds - especially electronics.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
