My Qualifications

I obtained my Bachelors degree in biology and chemistry from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

After being in practice several years, I obtained Fellow certificates with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Family Practice. While serving as a hospital trustee before joining The Permanente Medical Group, I obtained a Masters degree in health administration from the University of San Francisco and spent several years as a medical staff director of quality improvement.

Emergency Medicine

Emergency medicine is a challenging field that I have enjoyed being a part of for over 35 years. Being involved in an area of medicine at Kaiser Permanente that is able to meet the acute needs of patients in a high quality emergency care delivery facility is very rewarding. After being an independent contractor in emergency medicine for several years, I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998 to continue my career.

The very nature of emergency medicine brings day to day confrontation with health care crisis episodes. It is important for all of us to express in writing how we wish to be cared for when these crises arise and possible end of life issues are confronted. I want to encourage all our Kaiser members to freely discuss available end of life care decisions with personal physicians and family so that reasoned choices can be written down in an advanced directive.

An advanced directive is a document that allows you to give instructions about what health care you want or don't want if you can't speak for yourself. Additional information regarding Health Care Power of Attorney and Living Wills is available from Kaiser Permanente's Health Encyclopedia as well as the California Medical Association. The link in the left margin will connect you to the frequently asked questions section of the CMA website.

My Outside Interests

Away from work, I enjoy reading, golfing, auto racing, and internet programming. Additional information about my outside interests can be viewed by checking out the personal information link in the navigational side bar at the left.

Be sure to visit the New Kaiser Permanente Website for additional information regarding appointments, prescriptions, health education classes and other health-related topics. You can also click on my department link above to receive additional health information.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
