My Qualifications

I am a pulmonologist/ intensivist and have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1979. I completed my undergraduate medical training in New Delhi, India. Afterwards, I moved to the United States in 1973, and completed my internship in internal medicine in Philadelphia. My internal medicine residency and pulmonary fellowship were both completed in Bronx, New York. I am trained in all aspects of pulmonary medicine and intensive care.

I am a clinical professor of medicine at U.C. Davis and part of the voluntary faculty at the U.C. Davis. I enjoy teaching UCD resident physicians in training at our Kaiser hospital.

My Credentials

Medical school All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India

Residency Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bronx, NY
Fellowship Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bronx, NY
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Pulmonary Disease, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Healthcare Practice

I believe in helping patients. I want to treat all my patients in the same way I would like to be treated if I were to be a patient. I like my patients to participate in their medical care. I believe that my role is to educate my patients regarding their medical problems and guide them in making the right decision regarding their medical care. I am a keen listener.

What is a pulmonologist:

A pulmonologist is a physician who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the lung and the chest cavity. In addition to being fully trained in internal medicine, pulmonologist had an extensive training in treatment of diseases such as emphysema/COPD, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, tuberculosis and other infections of the lungs.

What is an intensivist:

An intensivist is a physician who is an expert in the treatment of patients with serious medical problems who need to be in intensive care units. These patients are usually in serious or critical state. Treatment of these patients may include need life support and other intensive care measures.

My Outside Interests

When I am not working, I love to hike or bike. I have done several American lung association bike treks for their fund raising.
