Welcome to my web page. I am pleased to have the opportunity to share some of my professional and personal philosophies with you.

About Me

At a very young age, I knew that in my life I could not be anything other than a doctor. My reasons for choosing the field of medicine were influenced by many life experiences, both personal and with family. I feel that when a person is ill, they often have an overwhelming sense of uncertainty that frequently leads to many unpleasant emotions. I like to think that a doctor's role goes beyond the accuracy of his diagnosis and success of his treatment choices but in his ability to build a trusting relationship with his patients. I feel extremely fortunate to call many of my patients friends and have been able to share life outside the clinic or hospital. It also makes me very happy to greet many of you when I see you in the bookstore, restaurant, and many other places life takes me.

Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Choosing Kaiser Permanente to practice was one of the easiest decisions of my life. In this wonderful medical group, we enjoy the latest technology, and we have access to an outstanding wealth of resources for the benefit of the members we serve.

Kaiser Permanente offers its physicians the ability to practice medicine with little disruption or interference from administrative duties. Physicians are able to focus on direct patient care without being concerned with issues such as billing. In addition, we are fortunate that this practice environment allows us to establish a balance of career and personal life and to fulfill other interests we may have.

My Healthcare Practice

I chose to specialize in primary care, specifically Family Medicine. I love my field because of its diverse and challenging scope, and most of all because I can direct people to lead a healthier lifestyle through prevention.

Working in primary care provides me with the opportunity to evaluate and treat a variety of medical issues and this allows me to positively touch people's lives. Being responsible for such a diverse group of people and helping them improve their health is an immensely satisfying aspect of working in this field. I enjoy being part of a medical group which fosters such camaraderie.

When you visit my office or call on the telephone, frequently your fist contact will be Lacinda Martinez, my trusty medical assistant, who works with me on a daily basis and is also familiar with your care.

We look forward to continuing to serve you and your family.

My Outside Interests

When not working, I try to be involved in my children's lives as much as possible. I am blessed with two children, a boy and a girl, currently in elementary school, with many challenges of their own. Like many parents, almost every weekend is spend attending birthday parties, recitals or sporting events. Taxing, but I know to enjoy it while it lasts. As a family, we await every opportunity to escape to Lake Tahoe, a place we truly love and appreciate for its many close-to- nature activities.

My Qualifications

I joined The Permanente Medical Group Adult Medicine Department in 1997, and I am currently the physician team leader on Medicine 1.
