Welcome to my practice…
As a physician, my relationship with my patients is very important. My goal as a cardiologist specializing in heart failure and heart transplant is to treat your heart problem as well as help you and your family understand and cope with your condition in the best way possible for you. That is why we have an excellent multidisciplinary team composed of physicians, nurses, clerical staff, and allied health professionals to help take care of you. It is this unique team approach that allows me to provide you with high quality care for you and your heart. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or feedback about your visit today. I appreciate this chance to introduce myself and my team to you.
My Background:
I’m a native Iowan, but later settled in Ohio. I graduated from Ohio State University (GO BUCKEYES!) & then Medical College of Ohio (MCO). I did my residency at MCO in internal medicine & then spent a year traveling the country practicing medicine. I moved to CA to train as a cardiologist and a heart failure/transplant specialist at CPMC in San Francisco. I then returned to my alma mater, MCO, to teach for two years before being recruited back to California by Kaiser Permanente in 1999. What a great move! I love it here. I am board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and UNOS Certified in Heart Transplantation.
My Philosophy:
My practice philosophy is to educate patients about their condition so they can make an informed choice regarding their treatment options. I also expect my patients to be active participants in this process.
My Interests:
- On a professional note, my interests include cardiovascular research.
- When I’m not working, I pack the rest of my life with concerts, travel, books, swimming, skiing & crossword puzzles.
My Recommendations:
I encourage you to play an active role in understanding your heart condition & doing your part to help you feel better and live a healthier life. You can help by exercising, following a heart healthy diet, & taking your medications. These things are not always easy to do, but our team has many resources to help you in this goal. We may cover a lot of new information during your visit today so you may want to review some of this later by going to my home page where I have related links. I also recommend that you have a primary care physician (PCP) so you can get the best comprehensive care for all your health needs. I hope to work closely with your PCP & other physicians caring for you to provide you with the best care possible.
