Hi! My name is Charlotte Shum; welcome to my website.
I specialize in hand and upper extremity problems in the Department of Orthopedics. I love my practice, as I am afforded the opportunity to interact with and help patients of all ages from all walks of life. My patients range from children to seniors who can be students, laborers, and professionals. I enjoy our diverse patient population as they come to me seeking help for fractures, arthritis, nerves, tumors, soft tissue injuries, etc. This makes work both interesting and fun. There is never a boring day here at Kaiser, and I look forward to working with you to decide upon the optimal treatment plan for you.
On a more personal level, I am a transplant from the East Coast (go Pittsburgh Penguins & Steelers, NY Mets, & Grays Papaya). My husband was recruited to come out here to treat and cure brain tumors. Together we have a nice family with three toddler-age kids at home. As we spend more time out here, we’ve come to appreciate all that the beautiful Bay Area has to offer. For fun, I’ve run the Boston and New York Marathons, and I continue to run now that I’m here.
I am proud to be a member of the Kaiser facility here in Oakland, and I will try my best to meet your health needs. I am open to ideas on how I can make your experience better; if you have any suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
