About Me

I went into medicine because I like the intellectual stimulation it provides, and I love working with people. Medicine is my life work.

I chose pediatrics because it provides lots of variety. I love watching my patients blossom from birth to young adulthood. Kids can get sick quickly but they can get better just as quickly, which is rewarding to watch. I enjoy working with the parents and families of my patients. Children are vulnerable, and I enjoy being an advocate for their welfare and well-being.

I choose to work for Kaiser Permanente because I fully agree with the philosophy of providing comprehensive health and preventive care. In this setting, I can practice medicine based on my own clinical judgment, which is based on excellent training and many years of practical experience. I like the fact that my patients get "one-stop shopping" so they have pharmacy, lab, and x-ray in the same location. I work with a group of competent colleagues who trust and support each other, with specialists just a phone call away.

I fully believe in prevention. I also believe that as a physician, I am an instrument of a higher power. I strive to provide each patient with the special individualized care that everyone deserves.

I am married, and we have one wonderful daughter. My main interest in life, other than medicine, is raising our daughter. She has taught me more about being a good pediatrician than any one else in my life. My other interests include volunteering at my daughter's school and my involvement at the county and state level in political advocacy for improving health care. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, nature, and reading.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
