I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1996. My special interests include educating patients regarding their inherited cancer susceptibility risks, and providing a much-needed genetic counseling services to our Spanish- speaking patients. I am one of two non-native Spanish speaking genetic counselors in KP Sacramento.

Previous to joining the wonderful KP genetics team, I was the supervising genetic counselor at a private prenatal diagnostic center in Sacramento for 4 years. Being a Michigan native, I was elated to move to the Sacramento area after living in the Los Angeles area for 7 years. My first genetic counseling job was at Los Angeles County/ USC Medical Center in East Los Angeles- thus I was able to refine my skills as a Spanish-speaking genetic counselor. My high school Spanish teacher would be proud!

What brought this Midwestern girl to sunny Southern California? Graduate School of course. After I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University, I took off to backpack the Appalachian Trial. I cut my hike short (only 1000 miles into it) and drove to Orange County, CA.

I decided Sac was the place for me while visiting the area when I was living in Southern California. I was drawn to the trees, and the Mid-Western atmosphere. Little did I know that I had allergies before moving here. My passion is my garden (home- grown tomatoes), my family, and my friends-not necessarily in that order. I strive for equal rights for everyone-but my heart goes out to lesser advantaged children and women.

I have been Team Captain for KP for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Annual walk since joining Kaiser, and in my spare time I am a member of my daughter’s school Parent Team Board.

Stay involved-keep kids safe!
