My Healthcare Practice
I have been with Kaiser Permanente for over 25 years, when there was only one hospital and one clinic in the entire Sacramento area. I started in the Emergency Department at the Morse Avenue hospital and continue to work there and also at the Roseville Hospital on Eureka Road.
In addition to seeing patients in the Emergency Department, I also fly to Southern California to work in the Kaiser Permanente designed Emergency Prospective Review Program (EPRP), where we field calls from emergency room physicians for any Kaiser Health Plan member that ends up in a non Kaiser Permanente hospital. We are able to provide pertinent and useful information to help the outside doctor give even better care. If you need hospitalization after your emergency department evaluation and are deemed safe for transfer, we can then arrange for an ambulance, accepting doctor, and room at a Kaiser hospital. Though most of the cases at EPRP are within California. I once helped repatriate a California Health Plan member who became ill in Russia.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente
Although the practice of medicine, insurance plans, and health care costs have changed dramatically over the years, I feel I can honestly say that practicing at Kaiser Permanente is good not only for the physician, but also for all its health plan members. If you need to see me in the Emergency Department, you can relax in knowing that I serve you, not the bean counters. If I need to consult with a specialist to manage your care, they are readily available. Many clinical protocols have been developed to simplify and better manage common, but complex problems like pneumonias and heart attacks, resulting in better outcomes for the patient.
Almost all the changes I have experienced at Kaiser Permanente, from the many new hospitals and clinics, the extensive use of computers and information technology, and the cooperative relationship between our union staff, have been extremely positive, the one thing that hasn’t changed over the years is the sometimes long waits to be seen in the emergency department. We have not only developed many protocols to alleviate this, but continue to expand the number of physicians and beds in all the Sacramento Kaiser Permanente Emergency Departments. No matter how short or long your wait or how serious or seemingly trivial your complaint, I hope to personally help you get back your health and onto your feet when you visit me in the Emergency Department, so that the next time we meet, you’ll see me shopping at Home Depot, Ace Hardware or Lowes, or hiking in the mountains, some of my favorite activities.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
