BIOGRAPHY

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from San Jose State University and my MS & PhD degrees from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto. I'm board certified by the California Board of Behavioral Science.

My specialty is in working with young people and families. I am a father of two children and enjoy camping, surfing, funny movies and I play several musical instruments. I speak intermediate Spanish and occasionally teach classes in meditation. I also spent 15 years as a carpenter and contractor and still enjoy building. We have a great staff here in our clinic and I love my work. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

WHY COUNSELING?

Maybe you have been in counseling before or this could be your first time. You are not alone because millions of families, young people, athletes, old people and even businesses use the help of counselors and psychologists. People come in to our clinic for many different reasons but usually there is a problem that is causing a good deal of discouragement. Discouragement often seems to really take over things, mess life up, and brings with it a good deal of unhappiness, worry, and grief.

The problem may be related to school, a divorce, death of a loved one, a recent move, a new blended family with step-parents and step-siblings, anger, attitude, legal problems, grades, depression, drugs, medical conditions, problems with brother or sister…and the list goes on.

I work with young people, families, and parents to help rediscover the courage that lets us stand up to these problems and to create a happy life. That’s my main job—to support and coach as you uncover the happiness that discouragement has covered up.

CONFIDENTIALITY

What we talk about in counseling sessions is private. If a parent talks to me in private, I will not talk about the details of our conversation with a child, and the same applies to a conversation with a child. Conversations are not confidential if I believe that someone is in danger of hurting themselves or others, or that Child or Elder Abuse has occurred or is occurring. Please talk to me about any issues that apply to confidentiality.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
