Welcome To My Home Page!

My name is Barbara Doran and I am a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. As such I care for and treat disease peculiar to women ranging from teenagers to the elderly. I initially became a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1980 upon graduating from Sonoma State and then went on to earn the Women’s Health classification when I graduated from Stanford University in 1982. In that day in age there were many nurse practitioners specializing in women’s health in the professional setting. Specific training and accreditation became available and mandated which has heightened the level of care women can take advantage of.

I’ve been with Kaiser Permanente since 1984 and have worked in the various clinics under the Kaiser San Rafael umbrella. I was one of the first practitioners to see patients when Novato opened in 1990 and I’ve been here ever since. Besides my medical practice I am involved with an assortment of committees that concentrate on leadership and quality projects.

My new role is a joint venture from both California Nurses Association and the Regional Offices at Kaiser Oakland. The Quality Liasion program involves RNs and NPs throughout the entire Northern California region. Members of this group work in their clinical settings as front line staff who are able to bring nursing issues related to safe patient care back to the directors of quality in the region. We are the link between nurses and NPs directly caring for patients and the regional heads. The work is entirely devoted to patient safety concerns.

While away from the clinic I enjoy most things that the outdoors has to offer. I particularly enjoy skiing, golf, hiking and world travel. In the past my fondest traveling experiences dealt with spending time in third world countries and having opportunities to assimilate into local cultures through the learning of foreign language and native traditions. I also love music of all varieties. I even consider myself a novice accordionist, but no, I don’t play “Lady of Spain.”

Thank you for visiting me on the web. I hope you take advantage of the web resources we are able to provide. Kaiser does a great job of promoting health and providing the most up to date information available. Here is a quick overview of my educational experiences and credentials.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
