All headaches hurt, but not in the same way. They vary in intensity, frequency, and duration depending on what kind of headache you have and how sensitive you are. They can be mild, moderate, or so severe that they stop you from going to work, having fun, and doing your normal routine. While we don't know exactly what causes chronic head pain, we know a lot more now than 10 years ago.

The International Headache Society has labeled nearly 130 different types of headaches. In this program, we will discuss the major types (migraine, tension, cluster, and mixed headaches—a mix of migraine, tension and other types of headaches) and five subtypes (cervicogenic, post-traumatic, hormonal, sinus and rebound).

If your type of headache isn't one of these, talk to your doctor to find out what kind you might have. To determine what type of headache you may have, take the headache questionnaire.
