Headaches caused by neck problems are called cervical headaches (or cervicogenic). Lots of headaches actually start in the neck, even those that are felt mainly in the forehead, or behind, in, and around the eyes. There are many reasons for these kinds of headaches, including:

  • Fatigue
  • Poor posture
  • Injuries
  • Disc problems
  • Joint degeneration or arthritis
  • Muscular stress
  • Prior neck surgeries
  • A narrowing of the spinal canal, called spinal stenosis

Physical therapy and changes in posture are the best way to treat these headaches. Check out the section on Self Care and Prevention. Call or email your doctor if your cervicogenic headaches are not getting better.
