Take a Look at Your Daily Activities

  • The body loves routine, especially when it comes to eating and sleeping! Try to wake up and go to sleep at about the same time every day, even on weekends and vacations. Be sure to keep your energy constant by eating regularly throughout the day.
  • Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health! Smoking or exposure to smoke is a frequent headache trigger.

Limit Caffeine and Medications

  • Avoid caffeine and certain medications. If you decide to taper off regular use of caffeine or aspirin, you may have mild-to-moderate headaches for a week or two. If you are overusing a prescription drug it is safest to taper off slowly. Talk with your advice nurse or personal physician about the best plan for you.
  • If you are using birth control pills and are worried that they are triggering your headaches, talk to your doctor about changing your prescription. Switching to a different formula could decrease your headaches.

Work Well, Drive Well, Sleep Well

  • Pay attention to your computer or hobby space at home or work. Consider the type of lighting, the height of your desk and chair, the time you spend working at an angle, glare on your computer screen, placement of any tools you use frequently and any other factors that might contribute to your headaches.
  • Adjust your work space so it works for you.
  • Check your posture and support when driving and sleeping. Small changes can make a big difference.
