Emergency Calls
Call 911 for any life-threatening emergencies for which for which your child might require resuscitation (e.g., your child is not breathing, is severely choking, has been knocked unconscious, or is having a seizure).
Calls About Sick Children During Office Hours
We see sick children by appointment only. Our office hours are:
Weekdays 8:40 AM to 7:00 PM, Weekends and holidays, 9AM to 5 PM.
The Call Center is available to take your calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If your child is sick and you want the physician to see him or her, call ahead for an appointment. Try to call about sick children early in the day.
All medical calls are screened by someone who has been specially trained and has access to protocols written by our physicians to make decisions on which patients need to be seen by the physician and how to provide home care for children who don't need to be seen. Your call may be transferred to a registered nurse who can give more detailed advice. If the nurse can't help you, you will be either given an appointment or a message will be sent to the physician and someone will call you back within 24 hours.
Working Parents and Sick Children
We keep appointments open during the last hour of the day for sick children who need to be seen after school of day care. Be certain your babysitter or day care center understands that he or she should call you before 2 PM if your child becomes ill If you think your child may need to be seen today, please call as early as possible.
Well Child Questions
We are happy to provide you with the health information you need to be a better parent. However, please place these calls about behavior issues or other well-child issues during weekday office hours. The best time to call is usually in the early afternoon when our call center is least busy.
Prescription Refills
We refill prescriptions only during office hours, Monday through Friday. Plan ahead so that you don't run out of important medicines. The phone number and other information that you need are on the medication bottle's label.
Nighttime (After-Hours) Calls
After office hours, calls should be made only for emergencies or urgent problems that can't wait until morning. Calls about mild illnesses can usually wait until the next morning.
Weekend and Holiday Calls
If your child becomes ill or is injured during a weekend or on a holiday, call our call center. They can decide with you whether the problem can wait until the next working day, whether the child should be seen in the urgent care pediatric clinic, or whether you should take your child to the emergency room. If possible, call before noon. After 5PM, limit calls to emergencies or other urgent problems that can't wait until morning.
Please have the following information available when you call (except in extreme emergencies):
- Your child's Kaiser number
- You child's main symptoms
- Any chronic disease of health problem you child has
- Your child's temperature if he/she is sick
- Your child's approximate weight
- The names and dosages of any medicines your child is taking
- The pharmacy you prefer to use
- Your questions (it's a good idea to write them down)
Always have a pencil and paper handy to take down instructions, and have your child nearby in case you need to check something about his/her condition.
