New York is my place of birth and Baltimore is where I was raised. From 1969 through 1972 I attended the University of Maryland. Then in 1972 I moved to San Francisco to attend the California College of Podiatric Medicine where in 1974 I received my Bachelor of Science degree in basic medical science and two years later, in 1976, my Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree. From 1976 to 1978 I did electron microscopic research on nerve tumors in the foot and received a Masters Degree in Anatomy. In 1978 I moved to Santa Clara to start a two year surgical residency in Podiatric Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, completing my residency there in 1980. I am board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in foot and ankle surgery.
Since completing my residency I have been practicing Podiatric Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara. Positions held while at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara include Director of the Residency Program in Podiatric Surgery from 1982 to 1991 and Chief of the Division of Podiatric Surgery from 1983 to 2008.
Other experiences include being selected to participate in a traveling fellowship at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, sharing American foot surgical techniques with surgeons from Israel and learning their techniques at the same time. Additionally, I have served on the Clinical Faculty of the California College of Podiatric Medicine, authored numerous scientific articles published in medical journals, authored chapters for medical texts, and lectured on the subjects of foot diseases and disorders of the foot. I have served on the Admissions Committee for the California College of Podiatric Medicine, as an editor for the Journal of American Podiatric Medical Association, as an examiner for the Board of Quality Medical Assurance, Podiatry Division in California, on the National Board of Podiatric Medical examiners, and Chair of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Chiefs of Podiatric Surgery.
On a personal note, I am married and have raised two children. My home is in the Santa Cruz area and I enjoy outdoor activities.
