Your first visit to the Musculoskeletal Department will involve a physical examination and a thorough medical history. To provide you with the best access and service, you may be evaluated initially by a Surgeon, a non-Surgeon Specialist, a Physician Assistant, or a Nurse Practitioner, all of whom are highly trained. The non-Surgeons are in direct consultation with our surgeons on a daily basis.
For your initial consultation, you may be mailed a patient questionnaire when your consultation is scheduled. Please fill it out and bring it with you to your appointment.
Please make sure we receive copies of all outside records and/or x-rays that were done pertaining to your current problem. If X-Rays are going to be taken you will be notified that you need to arrive 1 1/2 hours early for your appointment.
For your consultation you will need to be examined to some extent. Wearing appropriate clothing can ease this process. Recommended attire for specific problems are:
- Shoulder - Wear a tank top or easily removeable shirt.
- Arm, Hand - Wear a short sleeve shirt.
- Hip, Knee, Leg - Wear shorts. (If it is too cold to wear shorts, bring them with you.)
- Foot - Wear sandals or shoes that are easy to remove. If you are being treated for an ingrown toenail, wear house slippers, flip flops, or sandals.
- Back - Wear shorts and a loose fitting shirt.
Wheelchairs are available at the main entrance of the Medical Office Building. There is a nominal of .25 cents per rental.
It is strongly encouraged that a family member attend your appointment with you to participate in your care as needed. A minor must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Bring a list of your current medications and any medication allergies you have.
