Food Group Portion Sizes

Here are some other methods to learn the Portion Sizes without using measuring cups:

Using your plate
½ Vegetables
¼ Starch
¼ Protein

Using your household items
3 oz. of protein = size of a deck of cards
1 small fruit = size of a tennis ball
1 small baked potato = size of a computer mouse
1 cup of salad greens = basebal
2 Tbsp= golf ball
1 tsp of fat = 1 dice

Using your hand
3 oz. = Palm of your hand
1 cup = 1 fist
1 small fruit = 1 fist
1 tablespoon= 2 thumbs together
1 tsp = tip to first joint of your thumb
