The amount and type of food that you eat affects your diabetes control. Pay close attention to the timing of your meals and snacks. Read this section to get ideas for your meal planning. Keep track of the food you have been eating and the activity you have been doing by using the 2-Day Food Intake Record.
Ask your provider for a referral to meet with a registered dietitian to help you with food choices and the number of servings to eat at each meal and snack. Together you will create a balanced meal plan that will include adequate calories and nutrients to help keep your blood sugars in control. At first, following a new meal plan may seem difficult, but it gets easier as you start. Do not give up, your health care team is here for you! Remember, YOU are the most important person to take steps to control your own blood sugar.
