We encourage all families to establish their children with a personal pediatrician. Your children will normally see this pediatrician for most appointments. If your child has an urgent problem when the personal physician is unavailable, then one of your child's doctor's partners will always be available.
New babies are seen in the pediatrician's office within a few days of discharge, again at 2 weeks old, and periodically as they grow. Click here to see our normal schedule of check-ups: Appointments
The following are tips to help you with the process of selecting a doctor for your children:
- Ask friends and neighbors about their experiences with different physicians.
- If you are not happy with the first pediatrician that your child sees, ask for a different doctor the next time your child needs an appointment. Feel free to change personal physicians. However, you will find that both parent and child feel more comfortable when most visits are with the same physician.
- If you have no specific requests, our nurses or appointment clerks will be happy to make a recommendation. However, you are not "assigned" to a doctor, and you may change to another if desired.
- Occasionally, a particular physician may be closed to new patients if his/her practice is too large to provide personal care to any additional patients.
