Welcome to My Home Page!
Nursing is a vocation that combines science and art to help others. That caring is the core element of nursing based upon empathy; respect to one's self and others; application of the nursing process; belief in each individual uniqueness and holistic approach, and honoring diversity. Nurses integrate theory, clinical experience, and research to make decisions and provide quality care.
Nursing is my life, having worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. I graduated from San Pedro Hospital School of Nursing in the Philippines in 1972; moved to the United States in 1974 and worked at Southeastern Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Florida as a staff nurse then as a head nurse of a 51- bed Medical-Surgical unit until 1981. In mid 1981, I moved to California, and worked at Mills Hospital in San Mateo as a staff nurse of an Oncology/ Medical unit. In 1986, I received ICU training and worked at a step down/telemetry unit and float to ICU and CCU until 1989. In 1990, I transferred to Kaiser Redwood City where I worked in a Medical/Surgical unit (7 South). In 1994, I took an ICU refresher course and worked in a telemetry/ step down unit (PCU). In 1998-2001, I worked as an Advice Nurse in the call center.
Then, from 2001 ‘till now, I have been working in the Oncology Department. I worked in the Oncology Department because I loved helping people, and enjoyed the teamwork we have. Oncology is a very fascinating field; it is rapidly changing. I love learning and applying that into nursing practice and enjoying observing patients benefiting from it. I have chosen to work at Kaiser Permanente because of flexible hours, and I subscribed to Kaiser’s philosophy of “good people good medicine."
I passed the OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) exam in 2004, maintained the ACLS/BLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support/ Basic Life Support) certifications, and ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) certification. In 2001, I earned a degree in Health and Human Services from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA.
I was born and raised in the Philippines. As a young graduate from nursing school, the lure of adventure and professional enhancement lead me to join the group of nurses to come to the United States to fill in the nursing shortage of the mid ‘70s. Miami, Florida was a beautiful place but I left that area to join my husband in California. We have a daughter, Eliza, who just entered the University of San Francisco. We love traveling, art, and music.
