Do not drive for 2 weeks after surgery or if taking narcotic-containing pain medication, such as codeine or hydrocodone (Vicodin).
Your surgeon will order pain medication to use at home. For the first 3 to 4 days, take your prescription pain medication as needed. Instead, you may take non-prescription medication for mild pain.
- Resume taking any other medications as usual, unless instructed to stop taking them.
- You may shower, but do not take a tub bath for one week.
- Refrain from heavy lifting for 5 weeks after surgery.
- Refrain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks after surgery.
- You may have some vaginal bleeding.
- You may remove Steri-strips/paper tape 1 week after your surgery.
- Unless instructed otherwise by your physician, you may resume a regular diet.
Know when to call your surgeon after discharge
Call your doctor if you have the following symptoms:
- Temperature over 100 degrees F
- Persistent vomiting
- Separation of wound edges, drainage from wound, or redness around wound
- Shortness of breath or chest pain
- Swelling or pain in legs
- Vaginal bleeding soaking one pad or more per hour
